Why I wrote the eBook 'Less Confusion, More Effective Teams'

Do you have a passion that drives you?

Anyone who has spent some time with me will be aware that mine is enabling workplaces where people thrive.

It was ignited at the age of 16 when my first job in the city of London as a trainee in a firm of Chartered Accountants changed my life. The leaders in this, at that point, fairly small firm, made it an engaging and enjoyable experience. Everyone learnt grew and had fun; I had no idea accountants were 'meant' to be

boring!

Roll forward to a move to Australia and to many more roles in the corporate world. You may not be surprised to hear that I rarely had the supportive environment I experienced in that first role, however, I did always strive to be the leader I would want to work for.

Didn’t always get it right, let’s face it few do.

I was lucky to have access to some excellent management and leadership training which I found inspiring and helped me develop the awareness and skills I needed.

Taking on a turnaround CEO role in 2018 gave me the chance to put into practice a whole lot of what I’d learnt about leadership and change. It was an amazing opportunity to strongly influence the culture and create the engaging supportive environment that I knew was possible.

I now work with business owners and executives to help them do the same.

While there are many tools that can assist us as leaders, I have found the simpler ones typically work the best. DISC is one of those tools that can provide immediate ‘ah hah’ moments for a leader and their team, and establish some common language to assist with team communication and connection. As DISC is behavioural, an individual’s style is situational and can change, reducing the likelihood of people feeling boxed or labelled.

As I talk with leaders about their team challenges, I find some common themes. Being able to engage and communicate successfully with their team is right up there. This eBook takes 5 questions that came out of a series of DISC workshops I ran earlier in the year and provides explanations, stories, and how-to’s in response.

I wrote it so it can be used as a mini reference book but is also short enough to be read cover to cover quite easily 😉

It’s intended to demystify many of the different behaviours and styles you see in your team and point to where you can look for strengths as well as blind spots.

My wish is that it will help you get much more enjoyment and satisfaction from managing and leading your team and that your organisation will be one where your people learn thrive and grow, including you!
